James: Ready to Face Life Again

James was admitted to Regency Place of Greenwood from a local short-term hospital on December 28. He had begun dialysis in the hospital and was unable to walk more than 50 feet without experiencing extreme pain. He had been a resident of Regency Place in 2007, and when the hospital caseworker asked him where he wanted to go for rehabilitation, he chose to return to the place “that has the best therapists.”

James came to us depressed over this condition and began seeing Dr. Conley, who helped him with counseling and medication to get over his “hump.” Rehabilitation therapists discovered that James had a foot drop, which caused him to stumble. James was fitted for a brace and was given new shoes; now he walks the halls happily.

He is filled with praise for “Jay – I would begin telling him about the pains in my hand and he would immediately start massaging, relieving the pain almost instantly. Michelle constantly encouraged me to continue my dialysis. And Keesha has massaged my fingers so I can now make a fist.”

James is now returning home to live independently. “I am excited about going home,” he said, “but I know I can always return if I have another setback.”
